PASSENGERS were advised to take an alternative route after a disturbance delayed trains at Airdrie.
One of two main rail connections between Glasgow and Edinburgh, the line was been held up due a problem with a female passenger.
It was initially believed the female traveller was under the influence of alcohol when a problem occures as the Glasgow-bound train reached Airdrie.
But British Transport Police said its officers attended before an ambulance was called.
A spokesman said the incident was "not a police matter" and the woman had been taken to hospital.
Scotrail tweeted: "NEW: Due to passengers causing a disturbance on a train at #Airdrie, services running through this station will be disrupted."
