One of Glasgow's most famous bands have announced the departure of a founding member.

Teenage Fanclub are to bid farewell to Gerard Love over 'unresolved differences' later this year.

The singer and bassist, who helped found the band in 1989, cited their touring schedule as the reason for his departure.

The band broke the news on Facebook, while announcing a number of tour dates in Japan and Australia for next year.

Love will play his last show with the band at the Electric Ballroom in London on November 15.

Former members Brendan O'Hare and Paul Quinn will join the group for their October and November shows.

Writing on Facebook, Teenage Fanclub said: "Gerard Love will not be with the band for these dates, or any other shows beyond those we are playing this year.

"Following discussions within the band going back several months there is a continuing and sadly unresolvable difference of opinion on whether the band should proceed with proposed touring plans, so after that London show Gerry will be separating from the band, and Teenage Fanclub will be continuing without him.

"The band wish Gerry all the best in his musical endeavours."

Gutted fans left comments on the post wishing the musician the best for the future.

David Nichol wrote: "Gutted but I wish Gerry all the best for the future and look forward to the reunion tour."

Norikazu Ujiie added: "Gerry leave their band. In my youthful days,I loved his gently voice and a lot of melodious songs.

"Thank you for your masterpieces and memories."

Andi Elias commented: "That's a heartbreak right there. We used to always stand stage left because we knew Gerry was going to be there. Very sad news."

Teenage Fanclub will play a run of three dates in Glasgow's Barras this October to celebrate 'the Creation Records years'.
