A DRUMCHAPEL man lost his temper and ran riot when he was ejected from a private club.

Paul Hartey, 43, grabbed a metal pole and used it to bash and prise the handle off the building's fire door.

It was around 9pm when the accused was initially asked to leave the local club. He refused, but was removed anyway.

Police were called in response to his outburst outside. Before their arrival, members of the public were able to haul the weapon off Hartey.

When arrested and searched, the accused was found to be in possession of a blue-handled lockback knife.

The incident happened on April 18, 2018.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, Hartey pleaded guilty to shouting, swearing, refusing to leave Goodyear Sports & Social Club when requested to do so and behaving in an aggressive manner.

He also admitted causing damage to the club's door with a metal pole and having a knife in his possession without a reasonable excuse.

In defence it was described as an "isolated incident" as Hartey "had not offended for some time".

It was explained that the accused had been affected by the death of his sister – who died in difficult circumstances years ago – and from the passing of his twin brother.

His lawyer added: "He wasn't aggressive, but was acting erratically."

Sheriff Mary McCrory sentenced the accused, of Abbotshall Avenue, to a Community Payback Order with supervision for a year. The accused was also placed on a Restriction of Liberty Order, in which he will have to remain at home between the hours of 7pm and 7am for three months.
