THE weekend had finally come and I was struggling to crack my latest case. A little pick-me-up was required.
“Let’s get outta here Toots,” I called down from the upper floor of Tec Towers, “Grab my keys.”
“No need, our lift is here,” Moll said as I met her in the hall.
As we strolled out the front door, a cold chill went down my spine.
“Toots, why is your sister here? And what is she doing behind the wheel of the Buick,” I whispered nervously.
Before I knew it, I was being dragged into the car and driven through every pothole in and around the city.
As we came to a shuddering halt, through the cracks in my fingers I realised we were in Bothwell. I crawled out the Buick feeling slightly worse for wear but my eyes lit up when I spotted a neat little Greek restaurant.
The Moll waved her sister off and I said a prayer for the old car before we ventured into Plato.
Straight away we had a good feeling about this place. It was busy, and we were given a warm greeting by the friendly staff who showed us to our table.
Within seconds we were diving into the menu.
For her starter, the Moll went for the Feta Saganaki, which had feta cheese wrapped in filo pastry, deep fried and drizzled with honey and sesame seeds. It was beautifully presented and served with a tasty red onion salad.
I had the Greek meatballs which were cooked in a rich tomato sauce and served with garlic and oregano bread. It was a winner.
For the main course the lady went for the Chicken Souvlaki. The meat was perfectly tender, and she loved the pita it was served on. The accompanying tomatoes, red onions, tzatziki, olives and chunky chips rounded the dish off nicely.
I had the pulled pork which was served on a flat pita with tzatziki, spring onions, sliced onions, tomatoes and oregano chips on the side.
The pork had a delicious smoky, zesty flavour, while the chips were the perfect blend of being well-seasoned, fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Impressive stuff.
The generous portion sizes meant there was no space for dessert, but it gives us a reason to return.
Our Plato experience was enjoyable throughout and the prices were consistent with the excellent standard of food.
