Residents in Garnethill have been told they will have to wait again to return home following the School of Art fire.

Residents in Dalhousie Street were told this week it was expected they would get back home on Saturday but have now been informed they will have to wait until Monday morning.

The cordon will be lifted on the south side of Sauchiehall Street allowing businesses and residents to access properties for the first time in ten weeks.

The council said access to Sauchiehall Street will be available for 9.30 on Saturday morning.

A council spokesman said: “However, we expect some access for residents on Dalhousie Street will still be possible from 10am on Saturday. This is facilitated by Charing Cross Housing Association, which is working directly with tenants.”

the council said that the Sauchiehall Street side of the site was now considered completely safe but some work was still ongoing at the east side onto Dalhousie Street.

It is expected that limited controlled and escorted access for a short time will be possible on Saturday for Dalhousie Street residents but this is to be determined by the landlord and factor Charing Cross Housing Association.

But full access will not be possible until Monday at 9.30 am when people can return home if they wish.

Pauline McNeill, Labour Glasgow MSP, said she has been dealing with residents.

She said: “People are gutted by this.

“People had made arrangements with cleaners and joiners and now they have to wait until Monday.”
