A YOUNG man has avoided punishment after turning his life around.

Steven Smith, 22, found himself in the dock after losing his temper at a house party.

The accused spat on police officers and threatened: "I'm going to f*****g do yous."

The constables were initially called to the property following complaints of an ongoing disturbance. On arrival they could hear raised voices coming from a groundfloor flat.

The householder answered the door and told the police he didn't know everyone inside and wanted them to leave.

Smith, who was asleep on a chair, became hostile when he was wakened by the officers trying to get the 15 young males to disperse.

He stood up and began to shout and swear, branding the police "pigs".

After spitting and threatening to harm the officers, he then struggled during his arrest. The officers were able to get him under control by using a spit hood and fast-straps.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court last week, Smith pleaded guilty to shouting, swearing, uttering threats of violence and acting in an aggressive manner at an address in Ivanhoe Drive on July 30, 2016.

He also admitted resisting arrest by lashing out with his arms and legs and spitting on two constables.

In defence it was highlighted that Smith was put on a curfew following the incident and remained within his home between the hours of 7.30pm and 7am for eight months.

The accused, who had a troubled upbringing and consumed alcohol and drugs from a young age, was said to have turned his life around and now has a job.

Sheriff Linda Ruxton noted: "Your life has changed completely."

Smith, of Jamaica Drive in East Kilbride, was thereafter admonished.
