GLASGOW could see two new Gaelic primary schools built after recommendations from an expert group.
High demand for Gaelic Medium Education (GME) has prompted an education working group to suggest two new primaries will be needed by 2025.
A report to the city council's education department says one should be in the east of the city close to the City Centre and the other in an area of the north west of the city.
It comes from a GME Short Life Working Group set up to look at how Glasgow will provide Gaelic education for this school year ahead of a new annexe opening at Cartvale School in August 2019.
In the meantime, a temporary annexe has opened at Ladywell Primary with a roll of 93 pupils.
The working group predicts 140 pupils a year up to 2025 will go on to Gaelic secondary education.
The Gaelic School at Berkeley Street would become secondary only and the primary school move to a different site.
Councillor Chris Cunningham, City Convener for Education, Skills & Early Years, said: “We will continue to explore a range of options across the city to respond to the increase in demand for Gaelic Medium Education and in partnership with the Scottish Government.”
The Short Life Working Group has now finished its duties but will reconvene as the GME Engagement group.
