HIP Hop sensation Kendrick Lamar closed Glasgow Summer Sessions at Bellahouston Park last night.
The rapper made his outdoor Scottish debut, rounding off an incredible 2018 edition which saw Kings of Leon, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Kung Fu Kenny himself entertain crowds at Bellahouston Park alongside The Wombats, Twin Atlantic, N.E.R.D and even more.
The rapper performed hits from his latest Grammy-award winning album Damn as well as crowd favourites from his 2012 debut including the epic closer B***h, Don’t Kill My Vibe, Swimming Pools (Drank) and Backseat Freestyle. The highlight of the set however, had to be the career-defining, worldwide hit Humble, which saw the Glasgow Summer Sessions crowd sing every hook and lyric back to the Compton star, as Kendrick ended the epic set saying, “Such a beautiful crowd, such a beautiful land. Remember these words… I will be back.”
With one of the UK’s brightest grime stars Bugzy Malone opening the show, Glasgow Summer Sessions was well and truly ready to party when hip-hop icons and all-round superstars N.E.R.D took to the stage, performing hits such as She Wants to Move, Lapdance and last year’s infectiously catchy Lemon.
The past week has seen international stars from genre-spanning bands become part of Glasgow’s musical history; from Kings of Leon’s southern stadium rock anthems, to Catfish and the Bottlemen’s all-out indie-rock vibe, to a rapper at the very top of his game, Kendrick Lamar was the perfect artist to bring Glasgow Summer Sessions to the end it deserved.
