IRN-BRU bosses have hit back at rumours the original recipe is making a comeback.

Rumours had been circulating online that fans may soon be able to find full sugar cans on shop shelves.

But the firm has branded the allegations as "fake news", despite thousands begging AG Barr to bring back the fan favourite drink - some even going as far to pay hundreds of pounds via online auction sites.

A post shared to the Facebook page Bring Back Real Irn-Bru - Boycott Barr received thousands of likes after it was reported two delivery drivers had confirmed plans to return to the original recipe.

The post read: “This could all be b*******.

"However, spoke to two drivers who work for Barr’s who informed me that despite Barr’s united front of not backing down, the reality is they’re going to have to as the new stuff just isn’t selling and is starting to stockpile in the factory.

“Also, to add to this, guy who owns my local store has only just informed me that the Barr’s rep was in and has told him they’re reverting back to the original recipe potentially as early as September.

“Can only hope this info is true.

“Fingers crossed guys, fingers crossed.”

But the drinks giant has dashed the hopes of thousands of Irn-Bru lovers.

When asked about the claims, a spokesperson for Irn-Bru told The Sun: “Pure fake news! Irn-Bru sales are still going strong and there’s absolutely no stockpile in our warehouses.

“We’ve changed with the times, reduced the sugar in regular Irn-Bru and have no plans to change it back.”
