THE city is set to host an event to help those with learning difficulties live their lives to the fullest.

Stay Up Late Scotland has organised Sample Fest 2018, which will feature live music and information on the latest projects and support available to those with special needs. Gig Buddies, dates-n-mates, and Include Me 2 Club will also be on hand to offer advice.

Michael McEwan, who's calling for people to get behind Stay Up Late Scotland, said: "Going out to see band, clubbing or seeing friends is part of every day life for lots of people.

"However, if you have a learning disability you may need support to do this.

"We have found that lots of people with a learning disability aren't able to lead full and active social lives because their support workers finish at 10pm – meaning lots of people with learning disabilities leave events at 9pm.

"We believe that people with a learning disability have the right to say up late and have fun.

"Also, we want people with a learning disability to know they can stay up late, and choose how they live their lives."

As well as SampleFest, the Stay Up Late Scotland team also hope to launch Gig Buddies in Glasgow. The innovative programme matches adults who have a learning disability with a volunteer who has similar interests so as the pair can go to events together.

Michael added: "We want to enable people with a learning disability to enjoy all the great things going on out there like live music."

SampleFest 2018 will take place on Thursday, September 20 at Mono Cafe Bar between 2-5pm.
