SCOTLAND'S first-ever Dog Lover Show is set to be a smash hit.

Around 10,000 people are expected through the doors of Glasgow's SEC next weekend for the inaugural event.

Over September 8 and 9, there will be entertainment and performances from some of the most talented dog acts in the UK – including displays from the likes of Mark Wylie and The Drakes of Hazard, a live flyball competition with the Super Sonic Saltires, team competitions with the UK Disc Dog Association, and music for dogs from Play Paws Relax.

There will be over 100 exhibitors showcasing the latest gadgets, goodies, garments and grooming products, and there will be opportunities to meet the experts on training, exercise, nutrition and health.

Event organiser Robin Chalmers told the Evening Times that with so much going on, pets should be left at home – which includes her own dog, Flo.

Robin said: "We decided to take the lead from other indoor dog shows like Crufts and ask the public to leave their own dogs at home as there is so much going on.

"With up to 5,000 footfall expected through each day, if everyone brought their own dogs, that could get pretty stressful for all of our four-legged friends.

“We just wouldn’t be able to guarantee that all inoculations would be up-to-date or that the behaviour of all dogs attending would be up to scratch, so the decision was taken from a health and safety point of view.

"From a personal point of view, I know how much an event of this size would just stress Flo out.”

However, there will be plenty of prize pooches at the show.

Thirty breeder clubs will be bringing their own dogs, so there will be plenty of opportunity for a cuddle or to find out everything you ever wanted to know about your favourite breeds, from Great Danes and labs to pugs, Frenchies and Jack Russells to see if their traits and behaviours will fit in with your lifestyle.

All shows on the main stage will be child friendly and kids will be able to team up with Pets ‘n' Vets to be a vet for the day – with full training and a graduation certificate awarded at the end.

Robin added: "It’s our first indoor show and it's set to be a spectacular weekend for dog lovers.

"So leave your pooch at home, come and enjoy the show and you can spoil them rotten when you get home."

Earlybird tickets are only £8 and kids go free. Tickets on the door will be £10.
