Residents have hit out after two recycling centres have suddenly closed n West Dunbartonshire.
The council announced yesterday that recycling centres at Dalmoak, Renton, and Erskine\Ferry Road, Old Kilpatrick have closed.
In a statement, West Dunbartonshire Council said: "This follows the announcement that operator Greenlight has entered administration.
"There will be no access to either site and residents are advised not to attend.
"Other affected services include the Care of Gardens Scheme, high rise and tenemental recycling collections and recycling glass collections.
"As a council we will be working to ensure continuation of service provision and our employability team will be offering every support to affected staff .
"We will provide a further update once information is available."
Angry residents took to social media to hit out at the news.
Alison White said: "So what are we supposed to do now? Is this not part of what our council tax covers? Will you be providing an alternative? Increasing bin collections? Otherwise West Dunbartonshire is likely to become a fly tipping zone and the costs involved in that will surely be huge! An announcement really isn’t enough- the people of West Dunbartonshire need to know what happens next!"
Cammy Bonner added: "Everyone just dump their rubbish at the gate into Dalmoak until they re open it simple."
Yvonne Lynch said: "Hang your heads in shame West Dunbartonshire Council. This is a vital service to stop fly dumping!
"The decision to close the Old Kilpatrick yard, temporary or permanent, has just created a fly tipping situation which we haven't seen for years!
"People are trying to recycle, and that facility has now been removed! Get your house in order and sort this mess out.
"Also, please remember that there are a large number of Greenlight staff now facing an uncertain future in respect of their employment! Get your priorities right, stop wasting public money on provosts receptions and fancy lunches.
"The people of West Dunbartonshire deserve this recycling service and not have to drive miles to recycle.
"You are supposed to be supporting recycling initiatives and not closing them! This is part of what we pay council tax for!"
