GLASGOW Americana Festival is gearing up to take over the city.
The much-loved event will feature the best in country music with performances from the likes of Yola Carter and Emily Barker to Red Pine Timber Co. and Martha L. Healy.
Singer-songwriter Anthony D’Amato can’t wait to cross the pond.
He told the Evening Times: “The Glasgow Americana Festival is put together by Kevin Morris, who books fantastic shows in Glasgow year-round.
“I feel very grateful that there are folks like him out there who support and promote independent music.
“Glasgow has quickly become one of my favourite cities to play anywhere in the world.
“The audiences are so appreciative and passionate and focused. I've had amazing experiences in Glasgow supporting folks like Ricky Ross, Gretchen Peters and Israel Nash, but this will be my first headline show in the city and that's a really special milestone for me.”
D’Amato – who will be performing solo acoustic – promises fans an intimate set with just him, his guitar and some harmonicas.
He said: “My favourite artists are storytellers, the kind of people who can draw you in and lead you through the full range of human emotion in 90 minutes, and I aspire to that every time I get on stage.
“It's so easy to stay at home and sit in front of a screen and let everything come to you these days, so I work really hard to put on a show that connects on the kind of human level you can only experience in person.”
One of D’Amato’s highlights over the past year was when he hit the road with Deacon Blue’s Ricky Ross.
D’Amato said: “I met Ricky during my first visit to Glasgow several years ago when he had me as a guest on his BBC show, and it's been such an honour to have a songwriter like him be so kind and generous with his support.
“We played a whole lot of gorgeous rooms, including two nights at St Luke's in Glasgow, and his fans were some of the most wonderful folks I've met on the road.
“When I returned to the US after that tour, I finished up recording a new album, which will be coming out in 2019.
“For that record, I went out to the mountains in Utah and worked with one of my favourite artists, Joshua James, who helped me learn how to let go a little bit and create something very fun and loose.
“I'm so excited about all those new songs that I'm sure a number of them will work their way into the live show on this tour.”
As well as the upcoming album, D’Amato has a busy year ahead.
He added: “I'll be on the road in Europe for much of the fall, which I'm very excited about. I'll be returning to Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and the Netherlands in addition to the shows I have coming up in the UK and Ireland.
“When I return to the States, I'd like to shoot a proper music video for the new single, and then it'll be time to line up plans for the full album release and all the touring that goes with it.”
