THE Pavilion Theatre will open its doors to the public - five months after the venue was forced to close due to the Victoria's Nightclub fire.

The venue on Renfield Street will welcome customers on Wednesday night to watch Celtic - The Musical. The show had to be rescheduled from April due to the closure of the theatre.

In a statement, the theatre said: "We made it and are all ready for the reopening and the first performance of many to come.

"It has been a long five months and we look forward to seeing all the happy faces returning to the Pavilion.

"We would like to thank all the teams involved who have completed the refurbishment works in record breaking time."

The statement continued: "We would like to thank our staff who have kept us their spirits during this period and welcome new staff about to start with us.

"It was great throughout this whole period to receive the support and kind words from all our customers, not only from the west of Scotland but throughout the world. It is amazing the memories that the Pavilion has brought to a lot of people's lives.

"A big welcome also to the cast, crew and management of Celtic the Musical who, as you know, should have been here earlier in the year and wish them well for a great record breaking run.

"It is onwards and upwards now and great to be back doing what we do best. Thank you all for your continued support and look forward to seeing you soon."

The staff of the famous Glasgow theatre had to flea the building in March when a fire started in the nearby Victoria’s Nightclub.

At the height of the blaze more than 120 firefighters were at the scene on Sauchiehall Street, tackling flames.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it was one of the biggest incidents it has had to deal with while surveyors said the building had to come down on safety grounds with parts of the structure unstable.

That process  forced the closure of the nearby Pavilion Theatre which is only separated from the fire-hit building by Renfield Lane.

Manager Iain Gordon previously hit out at the delay in getting access to the venue by staging a public protest.

Poster slots on the side of the 114-year-old Class A-listed building, normally reserved for promoting shows, contain slogans including ‘we want in’ and ‘they are not demolishing us’.

The Evening Times also previously reported in June that a rehearsal space in Parkhouse that the theatre was using was also flooded during torrential rain.

Celtic The Musical runs at the Pavilion Theatre until September 29.
