A LARGE-scale fight broke out in Sauchiehall Street in the early hours of Sunday resulting in an innocent bystander being stabbed in the leg.

Detectives are now trying to trace the individuals responsible.

Police Scotland said the incident happened at around 1.15am on September 9.

A group of four men and two women were outside a takeaway at Pitt Street when they were approached by a group of seven men.

An altercation broke out between the two groups which then led to a large-scale fight.

Several individuals were assaulted, however, the incident was not reported to police and both groups made off.

A short time later, a 39-year-old man, who had been standing outside the takeaway when the disturbance broke out, discovered he had been stabbed in the leg.

He has no connection to either group, but was still injured.

Officers are now checking CCTV footage and appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The information on both groups is limited, but one female had blonde hair, was wearing a black crop top, white skirt and knee-length socks.

Detective Constable Mark Paterson described how a man “who had nothing to do with this incident” ended up being stabbed.

He added: “Sauchiehall Street is a busy street with many revellers on nights out. I’m asking anyone who was in the area around the time of this incident to contact us.

“They could have information which could prove vital in helping us trace the members of both groups.

“It’s possible people thought the incident wasn’t so serious, but an innocent bystander has been attacked by someone intent on causing harm, even though he had nothing to do with either group or the trouble that flared up between them.”

Anyone with information is asked to call CID officers at City Centre Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 0458 of September 9, 2018.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
