A COUNCIL committee is today expected to approve £2 million to develop Glasgow's newest Gaelic school.
At a meeting of the City Administration Committee, councillors will be asked to sign off on the funding from the Scottish Government's Education Capital Programme.
As previously told in the Evening Times, Cartvale School is to be turned into a new Gaelic Medium Education (GME) establishment.
It is expected to open in August next year.
In the meantime, pupils are being taught in an annexe to Ladywell Primary in Whiteinch.
Councillor Chris Cunningham, City Convener for Education, Skills & Early Years said: “The expansion of Gaelic Medium Education across Glasgow is very exciting and is opening up opportunities for more and more families than ever before who are looking to access Gaelic for their children and at all stages through nursery to secondary school.
“The development of what will be the former Cartvale School in Govan is yet another example of our continued commitment to GME in the city and the additional funding grant from the Scottish Government will go towards the upgrades and renovations for the opening of the new Glasgow Gaelic School annexe building in August 2019.”
