Lord Willie Haughey, the Glasgow businessman who donated cash to help save Hampden said he did for Glasgow.
He offered £2.5m to help met the cost of the SFA buying the stadium from Queen’s Park, then Sir Tom Hunter offered to split the bill with him.
Lord Haughey, said: I didn’t do it for the SFA or for Hampden I did it for Glasgow becasue it is the home of Scottish football.
I thought it looked like it was going to Murrayfield and I saw it was just about a gap in funding so I contacted Rod Petrie at the SFA asked if that was the case then offered the money. No strings attached.
He said he may be prepared to put up more cash to help with future plans although h e is not committeed to anything other then the £1.25m to help the SFA buy the stadium.
Lord Haughey said: “ If it goes well and it’s all moving in the right direction then maybe I’ve been involved in grassroots football.”
The businessman who said he was an under 16 Queen’s Park boys club player, however said he is not interested in funding for redevelopment of the stadium.
He said: “That’s for someone else.”
