Fewer people in Glasgow are using the bus as their most common transport in the city.

People in Glasgow are also just as likely to make a journey by car as they are to walk according to the Household Survey.

The rate of bus users has dropped from 57% to 47& in two years.

For trips around the city 53% of people said they regularly walked compared to 51% who said they were regularly a driver or passenger in a car.

Almost half took the bus (47%) and fewer took the train or subway with just 3% stating cycling was their most common mode of transport.

Younger people in the 16 to 24 age group were more likely to walk while the over 65s were most likely to take the bus.

Car users were mostly in the 35 to 64 year old group and men aged 35 to 54 were the most likely to get on their bike.

Of those who cycle the amount of people who cycle to work or study has increased between 2011 and 2017 from 18% to 35%.

The most common reason for cycling was for recreation or fitness.

People are put off cycling in the city because of a lack of cycle lanes.

The most common measure that would encourage people to cycle more or better on road cycle lanes.

A total of 15% said they would cycle if there were cycle lanes and 10% said more or better of road cycle lanes would encourage them to take a bike.

while 5% said less or slower traffice and more considerate driver behaviour would be an encouraging factor.

The council has expanded the next bike cycle hire scheme to new locations and invested in more new bikes, while improvements to some cycle lanes have been made.
