A LANARKSHIRE nurse has won a prestigious national trophy.
Eleanor Rae, who works at University Hospital Wishaw, was named joint winner of Bowel Cancer UK’s Gary Logue Colorectal Nurse Award in London this week.
Eleanor, who lives in Wishaw, has worked for NHS Lanarkshire for 43 years.
She was presented with the award by ITN newsreader and charity patron Charlene White.
Eleanor, who was nominated by patients for delivering outstanding care for those with bowel cancer and their families, was joint winner with London nurse Angela Wheeler.
Eleanor said: “What an absolute pleasure and surprise.
“To be recognised in this way for doing a job that I love reassures me I must be doing something right, and for the nomination to have come from a patient makes it all the more special.”
Lauren Wiggins, Director of Services at Bowel Cancer UK, said: “Bowel cancer is the UK’s second biggest cancer killer.
“With nurses like Eleanor we can continue to improve the quality of life of everyone affected by this disease.”
