A ROGUE lawyer has been fined £1000 for continuing to represent people at court after his certificate had expired.

Paul Garrett, 45, worked as a solicitor at Paisley and Hamilton Sheriff Courts in November and December 2016.

He lost his job with Bruce McCormack solicitors in January 2015, where Diarmid Bruce was the director.

Garrett, from Finnieston, Glasgow, was fined by sheriff Martin Jones QC after pleading guilty to the charge under the Solicitors (Scotland) Act.

He stood trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court for allegedly forging an affidavit and lodging it with a tribunal service in November 2015, but a jury found him not guilty of the charge.

Garrett lodged the document before his unfair dismissal hearing.
