PLANS have been submitted to Glasgow City Council to breathe life into a lane hidden just off Queen Street - by introducing a bar and restaurant, complete with an outside seating area.

Wellington Street-based Stewart Stevenson Architects submitted the plans to the local authority on behalf of client Carrick Properties Ltd earlier this month.

The team wants to make changes to the ground floor of office rental space building, Centrum, at 38 Queen Street.

Number 38 is a B-listed Victorian building, six storeys high and with a basement level.

The intention would be to turn the use of the floor from office accommodation into a bar and restaurant area.

Planners have applied to remove an existing smoking shelter and, instead, install glass doors and a glass canopy which would lead outside into a courtyard.

A statement provided along with the application says the plans “would align well with GCC’s initiatives to bring currently underused ‘back lane’ space into positive use.”

It adds: “We believe that bringing these spaces back into use, and ensuring that new installations are treated sensitively and appropriately relative to the buildings original rear elevations, has the potential to create a successful and attractive new facility with attached outdoor space that is currently under-provided for in the City Centre.”

The application is currently under consideration.
