A popular Scottish music festival has been cancelled after it dramatically moved location.

Organisers for Electric Fields have completely pulled the plug on the three-day event, due to take play in Glasgow this July.

It comes after hundreds of ticketholders demanded refunds after the festival was moved from its usual location of Dumfries and Galloway to SWG3 in Finnieston.

Many faced major delays in receiving their refunds, with some festival-goers reporting payments still being taken by the festival after a refund had been requested.

On April 16, organisers revealed, due to “rising costs of producing outdoor camping festivals”, they would be moving to the urban venue in Glasgow for July 2019, following a change of date from September in previous years.

A statement put out by organisers explains: "With a heavy heart, we are having to cancel Electric Fields 2019.

"This decision has not come lightly, and we have put in our all to avoid this outcome, however, we have been faced with challenges that we simply can't overcome.

"As of today, Electric Field ceases trading."

They then added:  "Never did we think that the party we threw in a field in Thornhill for 100 of our friends would turn into a party of 7000 in the grounds of a castle. Especially not in five short years. But it did, and that is thanks to all of you who came along and made it what it was."

Those looking to book tickets have been greeted with a message stating that "the show has been cancelled" with a phone number to call to request a refund.

The statements adds: "For information on ticket refunds, please contact your location of purchase.

"If you have any further queries please contact your location of purchase."

Acts including Friendly Fires, Frank Turner, The Vaccines and Metronomy were due to the play the festival.
