A TRONGATE building will be demolished to make way for a development which includes a hotel, flats and offices.
Glasgow City Council has approved Candleriggs Development 2 Ltd's application to demolish 152 Trongate, which stands in a conservation area.
The applicant intends to pull down a former leather goods shop to allow a "mixed use development" made up of "hotel, residential and office uses".
"The proposed demolition is directly associated with an application for planning permission for the site," a planning report stated.
"A building to the west and the former public houses to the north have previously been granted conservation area consent for demolition as part of the wider Candleriggs redevelopment."

The applicant believes the existing building does not offer a positive contribution to the conservation area.
"The proposed ‘Candleriggs’ development, which is bounded by Candleriggs, Trongate, Hutcheson Street and Wilson Street, will comprise a mix of private rented sector and private housing for sale, hotels, offices and retail/restaurant/commercial space at ground floor level," the report continues.
Last month, the developer submitted plans for a 500-bed hotel in the area, which would be operated by The Student Hotel, a service which also offers space for businesses.

It “brings together short and long term guests around communal facilities and shared activities that are available to everyone”, including neighbours.
Glasgow City Council has yet to make a decision on that application. Permission was granted in December for the demolition of the former Royal Bank of Scotland building on Trongate.
Applicant Caledon Property Group is planning to build a 157-bed hotel, pub and shops on the site.
