A 70-year-old woman was forced to endure a three-hour-long horror as a knife-wielding thug robbed her home.

The pensioner was left needing checked over in hospital after the traumatic experience, which took place in the Ibrox area of Glasgow.

Police say the man entered the woman's Ibrox Terrace home at around 6.15am on Sunday before threatening the woman with a knife.

He stole a quantity of cash, a mobile phone and personal possessions during the attack - leaving around three hours later at 9.15am.

The woman did not sustain any injuries but was left shaken by the "traumatic" experience and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital as a precaution.

The suspect is described as white, in his mid-40s, slim build, around 5ft10ins, clean-shaven with short black hair.

He spoke with a local Glaswegian accent.

He was wearing a dark short jacket, dark grey jeans and was carrying a grey shoulder bag.

Constable Siobhan Mckenna, of Greater Glasgow Robbery Unit, said: "Although the woman did not sustain any injuries, it was an extremely frightening and prolonged attack lasting three hours.

"It was a traumatic experience for her and she is being supported by her family and our officers.

"It is vital that we trace the person responsible.

"Initial enquiries indicate the man was in the Copland Road area before turning into Ibrox Terrace and entering the woman's house.

"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area and saw a man matching this description around 6.15am this morning, before the attack, or 9.15am, after the attack, to get in touch.

"I would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the suspect in the area."
