GLASGOW’S biggest social landlord teamed up with the city’s favourite newspaper to help people struggling to put food on the table.
GHA tenants and staff set up a small food bank in the Barmulloch office to provide emergency support to people in crisis.
The foodbank is now the latest recipient of the generosity of Glasgow Times readers after being gifted around 20 bags of food and toiletries from our Bank.On.Us campaign.
We launched the campaign in December to help ensure the city’s network of foodbanks were well stocked over the festive period.
More than 5000 bags were filled by Glasgow Times readers, schools, nurseries and city businesses as a result and delivered by our campaign partners, City Building and First Glasgow.
Bernadette Hewitt, chairwoman of the GHA, who lives in Barmulloch, said: “We’re really grateful for the support from the Glasgow Times’ Bank on Us campaign.
“This generous gesture will help us continue to support people in our community in hardship.”
The GHA already runs an Eat Well scheme, which helps tenants who are facing hardship and forced to turn to food banks.
The service also provides money, debt and budgeting support.
Tenants who need support are advised to talk to their housing officer or get in touch at www.facebook.com/glasgowhousing
