A PRIVATE hire car driver who failed to provide information to the council after an incident where he allegedly abused another driver has been suspended.

Enforcement officers at Glasgow City Council asked Iain MacDougall to produce his documents for inspection following a complaint from a member of the public.

However, councillors on the city's licensing committee were told the driver hadn't supplied the required information.

The committee decided to suspend his licence for the unexpired portion of its duration.

A council officer said the complainant had claimed the driver hurled abuse at them and their passenger during an incident in December last year.

He added Mr MacDougall had said he had been advised not to provide the information by the police but was told by the council's enforcement unit he had a legal requirement to comply with the request.

The driver later replied via email but did not complete the form correctly, the committee heard.

The council officer said when Mr MacDougall was contacted again he said his lawyer had instructed him not to provide information as it was a police matter.

The council investigation into the incident could not be completed. Mr MacDougall did not attend the licence committee hearing.
