A BUSINESSWOMAN drove a Jaguar at a graduate celebrating her degree and her partner following a row in a upmarket hotel.

At the High Court in Glasgow Hayli McGeoghegan, 34, of Brodie Drive, admitted driving the 4x4 at Claire Sweeney, 22, and Sahil Malikzai, 22, in Finnieston Street on November 16, 2018, to the danger of their lives.

The mother-of-three who run a number of florist shops and salons was originally charged with attempted murder, but her plea to the reduced charged was accepted by the Crown.

Prosecutor Mark McGuire told the court: “She is a self-employed business woman who runs a number of florists and salons.

“Claire Sweeney and her partner, Sahil Malikzai were on a night out at the Radisson Red Hotel in Tunnel Street, Glasgow, on November 15, 2018.

“They were with members of Miss Sweeney’s family to celebrate her graduation earlier that day.

“ At the same time the accused and members of her family were on their own night out at the same venue.

“ In the early hours of the morning of November 16, 2018, an altercation took place between members of the complainers’ party and that of the accused.

“ Miss Sweeney was upset and considered that her graduation celebration had been ruined.”

The accused was seen entering her car, which was parked on Tunnel Street. Minutes later as Miss Sweeney and Mr Malikzai walked across the forecourt of ATS Euromaster in Finneston Street, the accused drove at them – making no attempt to swerve, brake or stop. complainers, striking them with the driver’s side headlight area of her car.

Both were struck and knocked onto the ground.

The accused accelerated away and passers-by attended to the couple who were in a state of shock and considerable pain.

Miss Sweeney suffered bruising, swelling and tenderness to her right pelvis and thigh. Mr Malikzai had bruising, pain and tenderness to his left shoulder blade area, left elbow and back.

Police gathered in CCTV footage from the area and identified the accused as the driver.

The footage of the assault was shown in court.

The Jaguar 4x4 was found to have minor damage to the driver's side headlights.

McGeoghegan's only conviction is for driving without insurance and she was admonished for that.

Judge Lord Burns allowed McGeoghegan bail and deferred sentence on her until April at the High court in Edinburgh.

Defence counsel Euan Dow will give his plea in mitigation then.
