A PETITION has been launched in a bid to save The Signal Bar from demolition.
A developer has submitted plans to Glasgow City Council which could see the 49-year-old Anniesland pub transformed into flats.
Locals from the Anniesland, Knightswood and Temple area are now calling on Glasgow City Council to reject the bids which could see the venue demolished.
They believe the Signal Bar, otherwise known as the Siggy, is at the heart of the community and demolition would be devastating for the area.
One local said: “The Siggy is an integral part of the community. If they demolish it they will rip the heart out of the community.”
Another added: “This place is so important to the local community - young and old.
“It’s a social meeting place for a lot of people.
“Some live alone and without the Siggy, they would be even more isolated from the community.”
The Fulton Street pub was built by Tennents Caledonian Breweries in 1971 as a railway-themed bar.

Michael Holmes, who is spearheading the campaign, says the Siggy has been in his family for generations.
He said: “All the regulars are gutted to hear we might be losing the Siggy.
“It’s a real, traditional pub. We’ve got a Wetherspoons round the corner, but it’s just not the same.
“The Siggy has been around for tens of years now and it’s a real part of the community.
“My Grandad even worked on building it. So there’s a real emotional attachment from anyone.”
The venue has been used over the years to host many of the locals’ celebrations including birthdays and anniversaries.
Michael added: “All the locals in the area can tell you stories about The Siggy.
“We’ve all got fond memories and losing it would be devastating.”
The petition has received 328 signatures so far.
Michael added: “The pub is in the heart of the community even in terms of location.
“We’ve got such a tight knitted community and the Siggy just brings us all together. Even if you’re not having a drink.”
