We are all looking forward to post-lockdown haircuts and treatments, but one salon wants to ensure those who are working hardest during the outbreak receive some well-deserved pampering.

Charlie’s Hair & Beauty in Hamilton is offering free treatments to all key workers once the salon's doors can reopen post-lockdown.

So far more than 100 key workers have booked a free appointment as the salon's owner Luke Blakemore strives to give back to  "key working heroes for risking their lives for us".

The Lanarkshire salon had only opened about a month before lockdown measures were announced.

Luke hopes that the new clients will help provide a much-needed boost after the lockdown and adds he hopes he is "still able to trade after this awful virus".

He spent four months working on opening the salon "pretty much draining every penny" he has and has been thrown into uncertainty due to the outbreak.

But he believes, the best thing he can do is give back to those risking their lives during this time.

Frontline staff needs only to provide their work badge to take advantage of the free treatment.

The offer applies to NHS staff, police officers, teachers, warehouse staff, supermarket staff, health care staff, royal mail staff and other frontline staff.

The salon was allowing the heroic frontline staff to book appointments from April 16, however, it is likely they will need to rebook as the lockdown remains in place.

With the Government under pressure to set out an exit strategy from the lockdown, officials said it was “premature” to start thinking about easing the restrictions.

Charlie’s Hair & Beauty is committed to abiding by lockdown rules but free treatments will take place as soon as it is made possible.

Speaking of the 36 workers who booked to come in on the weekend starting April 16, Luke said: "I will most definitely re-book them and allow them to take advantage of their free treatment."

Treatments being offered include a balayage, full head foils and haircuts.

You can register for a free appointment by messaging their Facebook page saying "Front Line" with a picture of your badge.
