Two armed men wearing balaclavas forced their way into a Bellshill property on Wednesday morning.
At around 00.50am, a 30-year-old man made his way home from work when he arrived to two armed suspects demanding cash.
The pair, disguised with balaclavas, forced their way into the man's home before they demanded money.
After struggling with the homeowner, they eventually made off empty-handed.
The man did not require medical attention, however was left "shaken" as a result of the incident.
Police are now appealing to the general public for information.
One of the suspects is described as being around 5ft 9in in height and the second as 5ft 11in. Both were wearing dark clothing and a balaclava.
Detective Constable Graeme Stoddart of Wishaw CID said: “The man was not injured but was left shaken as a result of this incident.
“We are appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard anything around the time to get in touch.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 0120 of 13 May.
