Ken Macintosh, the Scottish Parliament Presiding Officer, has been taken to hospital and had his appendix removed.
The Scottish Parliament media office said Mr Macintosh “unexpectedly developed stomach pain on Monday morning and attended hospital.
“It was diagnosed as appendicitis and he had his appendix removed by keyhole surgery later that day.”
The MSP for West of Scotland has been discharged today and is said to be “already dealing with correspondence”.
The Deputy Presiding Officers Christine Grahame and Linda Fabiani will cover Chamber duties including FMQs tomorrow.
Mr Mcintosh on twitter said :”I will be outside on Thursday clapping for our health workers and carers with more passion than ever this week following my unexpected visit to hospital yesterday with appendicitis. Special thanks to all the staff at Hairmyres & Wishaw who looked after me.”
MSPs have been responding to Mr Macintosh with get well soon messages.
