Armed police have responded to an ongoing incident at the Park Inn Hotel on West George Street.
The force have currently closed off rhe street along with Hope Street, where they are redirecting traffic.
The mother of an eyewitness has told how police told her son a man had entered the Ibis Hotel.
The boy who was currently working at the hotel has said members of the public have been outside the hotel premises.
Others have claimed that a shooting has taken place on the street.
She said: "My son was working in the hotel and he left his friends who went in the hotel for five minutes when he went to the bank.
"When he came back he saw police and they told him there was a man inside the hotel.
"He said there was people stabbed lying on the pavement outside."
We have approached Police Scotland for comment.
Meanwhile, Home Secretary Priti Patel said: "Deeply alarming reports coming from Glasgow. Please follow police advice and avoid the area. Thoughts are with the emergency services as they continue to respond to this incident."
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has tweeted: "The reports from Glasgow city centre are truly dreadful. My thoughts are with everyone involved. I am being updated as the situation becomes clearer. Please help the emergency services do their jobs by staying away from the area - and please don't share unconfirmed information."
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer tweeted: "Extremely concerning reports about an incident in the West George Street area of Glasgow. My thoughts are with all of those who are involved. Please following the @GreaterGlasgPol advice and avoid the area."
Humza Yousaf tweeted: "Please do not circulate rumours or hearsay of the incident in Glasgow, Police Scotland will share information publically as and when appropriate."
Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted: "Deeply saddened by the terrible incident in Glasgow, my thoughts are with all the victims and their families. Thank you to our brave emergency services who are responding."
