A TAX-DODGING takeaway boss has been disqualified for nearly a decade after cooking the books at his company.

Allan Ho, the owner of a takeaway restaurant called Canton Cuisine was found to be hiding the amount of money he was liable to pay tax on for nearly six years.

He has since been barred from acting as a director or directly or indirectly becoming involved, without the permission of the court, in the promotion, formation or management of a company for nine years.

Ho, 52 from Coatbridge was the owner of Canton Cuisine on Union Street from 2010 to 2018. The company was incorporated as Allyan Limited and wound-up after tax authorities petitioned the courts to shut down the company.

Investigators uncovered that for nearly six years Mr Ho caused Allyan Limited to deliberately suppress its sales and delivery income in order to conceal its true tax liabilities.

This caused the tax authorities to raise several tax assessments to recover tax owed and by November 2018, Allayn Limited’s tax liability increased to more than £500,000, which also included penalties for deliberate concealment.

On June 30, 2020, the Secretary of State accepted a disqualification undertaking from Allan Ho, after he did not dispute that he concealed tax liabilities to the detriment of the tax authorities.

Rob Clarke, Chief Investigator for the Insolvency Service, said: “Directors have a responsibility to pay their tax liabilities and it is clear by Allan Ho’s actions that he paid little regard for this having suppressed a true picture of the takeaway’s performance.

“The public can be assured that where there has been abuse of public finance provisions which result in losses of this type, we will investigate those involved and take action to remove the privilege of limited liability for a lengthy period.”
