BBC Scotland have revealed that Sportscene will be aired at 7:30pm on a Saturday for all of next season.

The Scottish football highlights show had been shown on a Sunday evening for the past 18 years, but now telly bosses have made the decision to bring it back to its orginal Saturday slot.

It has also been confirmed that Scottish football fans can still get their Sunday fix of action with Sportscene running a Sunday programme, which will show extended highlights from fixtures that day.

Former Rangers striker Steven Thompson will present the Sunday programme, while Jonathan Sutherland will lead the Saturday showing.

The Friday Championship programme will also return when the second-tier season starts on October 17 and will be co-presented by Scotland international Leanne Crichton and Sutherland.

BBC Scotland's head of multiplatform commissioning Steve Carson, explained: "I’m delighted we’ve reached an agreement with the SPFL, bringing premier league highlights back to Saturday nights.

"The new highlights programme will be an appointment to view for fans.

"It will add to the comprehensive coverage of Scottish football over the weekend, including the highlights programme on Sunday which will bring in-depth analysis of the big talking points as well as the key action.

"Friday night football from the Championship was a fixture of the BBC Scotland channel’s first year on air and we'll again be bringing live coverage of matches in the new season."
