The First Minister has given a warning to school kids to stop attending house parties.

It comes one day after NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and NHS Lanarkshire confirmed two connected clusters were linked to indoor gatherings.

It earlier emerged that a pupil from Bannerman High School in Baillieston had tested positive for coronavirus after attending class when the school reopened.

Cases have also affected Caldervale High School in Airdrie, and St Ambrose High School and St Andrew's High School, both in Coatbridge.

A joint statement from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and NHS Lanarkshire confirmed there was no evidence of transmission of the virus at schools, but is however connected to house parties and indoor gatherings.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon today warned that indoor gatherings of more than three households where social distancing is maintained poses a direct threat of transmission of the virus.

She said: "The evidence that we have at this stage seems to suggest - perhaps not surprisingly - given how infectious we know covid is, that if the virus is present at say, a house party, everyone attending the party is at considerable risk of infection.

"Then, of course, the risk is that they then spread the infection more widely.

"All of that underlines the vital importance right now of abiding by restrictions on household gatherings.

"If I can remind you what those are, no more than eight people from a maximum of three different households should be gathering together indoors and two-metre distancing should be maintained between people from different households.

"These rules are not easy, I really do understand that but not sticking to them is presenting perhaps one of our biggest risks of outbreaks occurring at this time so I can't stress enough how important it is that we all do abide by and comply with these rules."

The latest Covid-19 figures show 19,407 people have tested positive for the virus in Scotland, up 49 from the day before.

This includes clusters in Aberdeen, Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Lanarkshire and Tayside.

Yesterday, Renfrewshire Council said a case has been confirmed at Todholm Primary School in Paisley, while two cases have been detected in pupils in Perth and Kinross.
