A part of a city-centre beer garden has been destroyed by strong winds this afternoon.

The marquee of Big Beer Showcase underneath the Billy Connolly mural on Osborne Street was left in pieces as Storm Francis batters Glasgow.

The gazebo from the beer garden was blown out onto the road.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent out two appliances to ensure the site posed no danger to the public.

The crews left the scene after the site was made safe.

Officers helped dismantle the structure after being called to the incident around 1.30 pm.

Allan Rimmer, co-founder of Glasgow Beer Works was at the beer garden dealing with the marquee.

He said: Glasgow’s weather this summer has certainly not helped us as a new beer garden. Thankfully there has been no real damage caused, other than a broken marquee and nobody has been hurt. We just hope that we’ll get some good weather for our Big Beer Showcase launching this weekend and we’re currently sourcing a new marquee”.
