Funds are being raised to purchase a Celtic headstone to honour a groom who died after tying the knot in a hospital.

Stevie Cairns, 49, married Katie, 51, at the Golden Jubilee Hospital in Clydebank on May 18 as he awaited a heart transplant.

The groom had the operation in secret to not worry his bride but became critically-ill during the recovery.

He died a short while later this month.

Heartbroken friends have raised more than £1000 to pay tribute to the Hoops fan with a Celtic headstone.

The Just Giving fundraiser reads: "As most of you will know Stevie Cairns, beloved husband of Katie Waterson Cairns, gained his angel wings and went to that paradise in the sky.

"Stevie was a big Celtic fan and would be nice to remember Stevie and his team.

"I have decided to set up this page to pay for a Celtic Headstone. Hopefully this will take the pressure off Katie at such a difficult time."

The fundraiser is hoping to raise £1500 for the Celtic tribute, after the couple plans to renew their vows at Celtic Park were tragically shattered.
