THUGS battered a vulnerable mother black and blue outside her Milton home after she picked up a takeaway.
Andrena Wright was coming home from collecting a Chinese takeaway in Balmore Road when she was surprised by attackers who left her “lying in her own blood and spilled fried rice”.
The 40-year-old takes medication for schizophrenia and had – prior to Sunday – been staying with her mother.
Andrena after the horrific attack
Her devastated brother Johnnie said the family had been rocked by the attack and “wanted to get to the bottom of it”.
He added: “We want to get my sister the justice she deserves.
“She’s not a harm to anyone, she’s such an affable person. She’s a lot more likeable than I am.
“She’d speak to anyone – whether you were Bill Gates or the poorest person in the world.”
After she had recovered enough from the attack, Andrena took to Facebook to livestream her condition, prompting friends and family to come to the house and alert the police.
Johnnie said that officers had “kicked the door down” after receiving the call that his sister had been attacked and that there was blood “everywhere”.
She was taken to hospital for severe injuries to her face and her family say she has now been taken to a care home.
They fear she may have sustained kidney damage from being kicked in the stomach after doctors noticed blood in her urine.
A very “happy-go-lucky” woman, Johnnie said he can’t imagine her fighting back against her attackers.
Andrena at home
He said: “She isn’t confrontational at all, so when she was being attacked, we all know she wouldn’t have fought back. Which makes it so much harder.”
Andrena had been living alone at her home in Haywood Street and was taken by surprise by her attackers, said her brother.
Her daughter heard the news from Spain, where she had been staying until yesterday.
Daughter Megan Wright was in Spain on holiday at the time of the attack and learned of Andrena’s shocking condition from her mother’s Facebook live video.
She took a photograph from the clip which has now been widely shared on social media.
The 23-year-old said: “If anyone was around Haywood Street on Sunday and has any information on who done this to my mentally-ill mum, please message me.”
Andrea's daughters Hayley and Megan Wright
The post has amassed nearly 3000 shares on Facebook from friends, family and appalled strangers.
Megan added: “It’s an absolute disgrace. Who would even do this to a vulnerable person?”
Darragh Byrne replied to her post: “This actually made me feel sick.”
Sophie Caron said: “Megan, I hope you’re all as ok as you can be. Your poor mum. That’s awful.”
Megan replied to those who had expressed their sympathies and shared her post.
She wrote: “Just want to say a massive thank you on behalf of myself and my family to everyone for their support and kind words.
“I can’t even explain how completely overwhelmed I am by how much everyone has done their part in helping find the animal who did this.
“Still no update as of yet but my mum is in safe hands and is getting the care she needs which the is most important thing at the moment.
“Again, thank you all so much.”
Police are now investigating the horrific incident.
A spokeswoman said: “At around 7.55pm on Sunday, November 8 2020, we received a report that a 40-year-old woman had been seriously assaulted in Haywood Street, Glasgow.
“The woman was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment to facial injuries sustained. Inquiries are ongoing.”
