EDINBURGH Airport scuppered calls for it to be renamed ‘Sean Connery Airport’ by heartbroken 007 fans.
The James Bond actor died on October 31, at his home in the Bahamas.
But heartbroken fans of the Oscar-winner, who was born in Edinburgh, lobbied Scotland’s biggest airport to rename itself after him.
Petittion organiser Andrew Morton wrote: “Liverpool has John Lennon airport, Belfast has George Best airport and with the death of one of her most famous sons Edinburgh should have a Sir Sean Connery airport.”
However airport bosses pointed out that lots of famous and noteworthy people came from Edinburgh.
A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport said: “If we ever consider renaming the airport then we would have a wealth of famous and historic Scots to consider, and Sean Connery would absolutely be one of those names.
“There are no current plans to do so.”
