Strolling through Glasgow streets, you can often find yourself stumbling upon abandoned properties.
Some may simply be an old shop, a house, or a restaurant, but many in the city are steeped in history and culture.
Have you ever stopped and wondered about the stories behind them?
Here we will introduce you to five of those abandoned gems.
1. Gartloch Hospital
Gartloch hospital is known for both its history and eeriness.
The hospital had opened way back in 1889 and helped patients who suffered from psychiatric disorders until its closure in 1996.
The area is now under development after successful plans to build new flats and a village.
The ghosts of Gartloch will appreciate the change of scenery.
2. Possil Railway Station
Opened way back in 1887, this property was a popular train station that ran from Rutherglen to Possil, via Glasgow Central Railway.
After closing in 1908, it had reopened after 26 years. In 1954, the station was renamed Possil North until its fate in 1964.
Does anyone see history repeating itself for another reopening?
3. Whiteinch Burgh Hall
Have you ever walked by this stunning building?
Located in Partick, the building was built in 1894 and was a former police and fire station.
Now derelict since 2002, the building strikes the attention of passers due to the building's architecture that was influenced by the Italian renaissance.
4. Joanna Dee’s Nightclub
Time is quickly eating away at this iconic nightclub that was highly popular in Glasgow's east end from the 70s through to the 90s.
It was known under many names such as The Jiggin, The Netherfield, and The Nerry Inn.
Would you go back in time to have a pint here?
5. St Margaret's Presbytery
After opening in 1882 as a Presbytery primary school in Kinning Park, the building has remained derelict since 2004.
The gothic and symmetrical architecture of the building is to be admired to this day.
However, the building is quickly deteriorating and there are visible signs of moss growing on the building.
