A NURSE who served the people of Glasgow – mostly by night – for nearly 60 years has hung up her scrubs for the last time.
Issy Jackson, 72, is preparing to retire after decades working on the nightshift as a theatre nurse at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
She started her career just three days after England strode to victory in the World Cup in 1966 and has been a fixture of the hospital ever since.
After a few months isolating at the beginning of the pandemic, Issy decided she would get back to work in August.
She said: “I feel it’s time for me to retire as I’m slowing down a bit – I am 72 after all. I must have walked thousands of miles round the Royal over the years.”
A nocturnal nurse, she has spent 30 years on the nightshift, and working during the day makes her “queasy”.
The health board’s North director, Isobel Neil, said Issy and her sense of humour will be “truly missed”.
