The Dowanhill school's headteacher has now shared her heartache at the news, calling Sophie a "joy to be around".
Rosemary Martin said: “We are absolutely devastated by this tragic news. Sophie was more than a pupil at our school – she was a very valued member of the community and a joy to be around.
"She was bright, caring, loving and went out of her way to help others; a genuine Ambassador for our school. Sophie will always have a special place in our hearts.
“This will come as a great shock to everyone who knew Sophie and as a school we are supporting one another to come to terms with this painful loss; in particular, we hold her younger sister close at this time.
"We will do whatever we can to support Sophie’s close friends and family and keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”
Floral tributes have been left at the scene of the smash with police launching an appeal for information.
