A PEDESTRIAN "ran into" a bus in the city centre, prompting a major emergency response. 

Police taped off Queen Street where the collision occurred at around midday. 

It is understood the pedestrian ran into the bus and rolled underneath its carriage.

First Glasgow confirmed the vehicle would now need to be hoisted while emergency services remained at the scene.

The street has since reopened to traffic. 

It is not thought the pedestrian was seriously injured.

Police were also seen at Union Street where they were directing traffic.

Duncan Cameron, operations director at First Glasgow praised the quick response from the driver "who has undoubtedly prevented a far more serious incident".

He said: "I can confirm one of our buses has been involved in a collision with a pedestrian this afternoon on Argyle Street. We are working with Police Scotland to establish the root cause of the incident.

"A pedestrian has collided with the side of our bus and fallen underneath it. Our staff are on the scene to support the emergency services and to support our driver who was shaken up by the incident.

"We wish the injured party a speedy recovery and thankfully the injuries are not more serious. I have to praise the swift reactions of our driver, who has undoubtedly prevented a far more serious incident.”

A spokeswoman for the force said: "Police were called around 12.10pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a bus and a pedestrian on Queen Street, Glasgow.

"Emergency services remain in attendance."
