Terrorised pensioners who were victims to a horror robbery have revealed they thought they were going to be murdered in their own home. 

The married couple, aged 66 and 64, had been inside their house on Miller Drive in Bishopbriggs before a gang of masked thugs forced entry on Sunday evening. 

Three thieves held the couple at knifepoint before making off with a safe containing their life savings, personal items and Asian gold jewellery worth a four-figure sum.

As they fled from the scene, a neighbour confronted the thieves but was lunged at by one of the men brandishing a knife. 

The pensioners have been left "devastated" and "shaken up" following the incident, which lasted around 20 minutes.

The husband, who wished not to be named, told The Sun: “We are absolutely devastated.

“We had no idea they were even in the house until we heard a bang upstairs.

“They held us at knifepoint. We thought they were going to kill us. It was terrifying.”

The couples' son revealed his parents were held with knives in their living room while the thieves ransacked their home. 

He told the newspaper: “Two of them had knives. They kept my parents in the living room. They were too scared to leave the room to confront them.

“They’ve lost everything they owned. Some of the money was going to pay for a relative’s operation but it’s all gone.

“The whole incident lasted about 15-20 minutes. They’re very shaken up.”

The suspects, all men wearing dark clothing and their faces covered, got into a waiting Seat Leon car which drove out of the estate.

Neither the householders nor their neighbour were injured but all have been left very shaken by what happened.

Detective Sergeant Shona Beattie, Community Investigation Unit, Govan Police Station, said: "Although not injured, this was a very frightening experience for the couple and their neighbour.

"We believe this was a targeted housebreaking with the suspects knowing what they'd find in the house.

"Officers are checking CCTV from the area and carrying out house to house enquiries, but we are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the car driving off at speed towards; or indeed, the car being in the area either prior to the break-in or in days before. We'd ask that people check any dash-cam footage from the street or maybe private CCTV?
