JUST imagine it was a question on Family Fortunes – “we asked 100 people for one word to sum up 2020”.

In fact, let’s extend that – “we asked 100 Glaswegians for one word to sum up 2020”.

What do you reckon some of the answers might be?

“Brutal”

“Murder”

“Honking”

“Chronic”

“P*sh”

And that’s just the ones you can print in a family paper. Most of the suggestions on the rank

didn’t/couldn’t make the cut!

Anyway, there is good news on the horizon:

there’s only three weeks of 2020 remaining – thank Donald Duck! – and we will head into 2021 with the vaccine roll-out already under way. Better times are ahead, surely. We can all unite behind that sentiment.

Yet still, there can’t be a single person

reading this who hasn’t suffered in some way during 2020.

It’s not been an easy time for a Glasgow Taxi driver, let me tell you, but we know there’s lots of suffering across the city which is why you’ll never find me moaning about it.

There’s nothing quite like such a dose of perspective and that’s exactly what I experienced when I heard of Glasgow Taxis Fare Share 2020 campaign, which went live last night.

In short, the company’s Fare Share fund will make a donation to three city charities, whose supporters can help by voting for them on the Glasgow Taxis Facebook page.

The three causes are:

  • Glasgow’s No1 Baby & Family Support Service,
  • SCIO
  • The G15 Youth Group.
  • G53Together.

All three care for children and families in need across the city and all three deserve our support.

Then, maybe just maybe, thanks to gestures like this, one or two of those 100 answering my earlier question might offer a different response:

“Kindness”.

Stay safe!
