RANGERS have shown their support to the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity by holding a Christmas jumper day at training.

Players from the B Team, Under-18s and Women's side sported festive kit at Auchenhowie on Thursday and raised more than £1,300 as part of the Rangers Charity Foundation's partnership with the hospital.

That cash will be added to Foundation’s annual donation to the charity, which will take place later this month, as the Academy teams play their part in spreading some festive cheer this Christmas.

Players from the youth teams usually visit the hospital each November to spend time with the kids but the trip was cancelled this year due to Coronavirus restrictions.

The squad took it upon themselves to arrange the fundraiser and Head of Academy Craig Mulholland is proud of the efforts of players from his youth ranks and the Women's side.

Mulholland said: “The players were extremely disappointed not to be able to visit this children’s hospital this year – it’s always a very enjoyable and humbling experience.

“However, I’m proud that our Academy and Women’s squads have continued to make a difference, especially as we reach the end of what has been a very difficult year.

“We hope that the money raised will go some way to further support the amazing work done by the charity, and we would like to wish everyone at the hospital a very merry Christmas and happy new year. Hopefully we’ll see you again in 2021!”

Rangers have a long-standing and proud relationship with the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and boss Steven Gerrard and his squad will do their bit to support kids and their parents later this month.

A virtual event will be held and a donation made to the charity, while players will sign Christmas photos that will be gifted to patients this Christmas.

Rangers Charity Foundation Director, Connal Cochrane, said: “We’ve always had a very close relationship with the Glasgow Children’s Hospital, and to see how much it means to the Academy and Women’s players fills me with immense pride.

“The Foundation is committed to being a force for good on behalf of the Rangers Family, and this is an ethos which truly echoes throughout the whole club. I’d like to thank all the players for their support and kind donations.”
