PUPILS at an Easterhouse school have bagged the top prize in a scheme to foster new talent through social media.

Budding entrepreneurs at Lochend Community High School were given social media training by a team of experts funded by the broadband company CityFibre.

Their brand, 10 Scents, impressed judges with its "exceptional" online marketing campaign to promote its line of eco-friendly scented wax melts.

Lochend pupils' products are reportedly selling well online and have been included in packs given out by local charities, including PEEK and FARE Scotland.

The firm sponsored social media training for businesses participating in the Young Enterprise Scotland Company Programme, through their schools.

Lochend came out on top, winning the top prize of £150, while teams from George Watson’s College in Edinburgh and Hazelhead Academy in Aberdeen were runners up.

Elaine Doherty, CityFibre’s regional lead for Scotland, said: “Young Enterprise Scotland is helping to shape the next generation of Scottish entrepreneurs.

"The teams from Lochend, George Watson’s and Hazlehead all grasp just how important digital is to businesses today, whether that is social media or an e-commerce platform. All the winning teams have shown real creativity in how they have developed their products, and everyone at CityFibre looks forward to seeing how they continue to develop in the months ahead.”

Young Enterprise Scotland's CEO George Leask thanked CityFibre for its support and said the challenge reflected an increasingly digital market for consumers.
