NATHAN PATTERSON has thanked captain James Tavernier for helping him on the road to success at Ibrox after committing his long-term future to Rangers.
The 19-year-old has provided regular competition and back-up to Tavernier as a key part of Steven Gerrard's squad this season as Rangers close in on Premiership title glory.
Patterson was rewarded for his efforts and his promise this week as he put pen-to-paper on a new contract that will keep him with his boyhood heroes until the summer of 2024.
The defender made his debut in the Scottish Cup win over Stranraer 12 months ago and is eager to continue learning from the example that is being set by Tavernier and his team-mates this term.
Patterson said: “It’s great. I’m still at a young age and I’m at such a big club.
“I have the backing of the coaching staff, the gaffer and the board which is great. It’s a real confidence boost.
“He (Tavernier) is just a great role model. Day in and day out, he’s always willing to help me on and off the pitch.

“Even when we don’t speak, I just watch him in training and that’s always a good bonus which has really benefited me.
“Competition is good and we’re both playing under pressure. Tav is playing really well at the moment and the team is playing really well. It’s good.
“That’s just Tav helping me out each day. When I might not be having my best training session he’s always there to talk me through it.
"He helps me with things I can improve on. I think that’s really benefited me and he’s a great role model.
“A year ago today (Tuesday) I made any debut which was a really important night for me and my family. Ever since then I’ve just been working hard.
“We’ve had a really good season so far and the club is at a good place right now. We’re just really confident.”
