CONTROVERSIAL proposals to develop a drive-thru coffee shop in Dennistoun are expected to be approved early next week.
Plans for the Starbucks at 232 Alexandra Parade were previously withdrawn because of parking concerns and the number of vehicles entering the site on a busy road.
The applicant, Motor Fuel Group, says the new submission has changed the layout and reduced the number of planned parking spots to six including three blue badge spaces.
It comes following 13 objections from the local community and politicians who believe the plans are “unacceptable” due to climate emergency declared by the council.
Objectors are also concerned about increased noise, traffic pollution, increased littering and public safety risks.
The drive-thru, which will also share the site of an existing 24-hour petrol station, would have a negative impact on the surrounding conservation area.
But developers say the aim is to make a positive contribution to the local area by creating direct and in direct job opportunities during the construction phase and then through the operation of Starbucks where up to 20 new jobs would be created.
A decision will be made on Tuesday.
