RANGERS insist the ‘confusion’ over the Scottish FA disciplinary process has been reaffirmed following the decision to suspend striker Kemar Roofe.

The 28-year-old has been hit with a two-game ban after losing his hearing on Wednesday regarding a challenge on Murray Davidson during the 1-0 victory over St Johnstone at Ibrox.

Roofe was booked by referee David Munro for the tackle and Saints boss Callum Davidson later insisted there was no 'malice' in the incident but a three-man panel deemed that Roofe had a case to answer.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard called for ‘consistency’ in the way that Notices of Complaint are issued following the ban given to Alfredo Morelos for his stamp on Hibernian defender Ryan Porteous.

A Rangers statement read: “We note the outcome of today’s hearing. Rangers FC recently called for consistency in the Scottish FA’s disciplinary process.

“There seems to be real confusion within the game regarding which incidents are cited and those that are not. This confusion solidifies our viewpoint regarding the current system.”

Gerrard was unhappy at the timing of the decision to cite Roofe on Friday and the former Leeds United and Anderlecht forward came off the bench during the 1-1 draw against Hamilton Accies as the Gers were held for only the fourth time on Premiership duty this term.

And Gerrard will now be without Roofe for the matches with Kilmarnock and Dundee United as Rangers look to move closer to the Premiership title this term.
